There are two categories of people; the ones that have already lost their data, and the others who are going to lose them. I used to repeat this mantra proudly to whoever wanted to listen to me. And then, what my dear friend Murphy has predicted, not only happened, but it happened to ME!!!!
Yes, it happened to me. I lost my data, because my laptop was stolen from my car. I kept it in the back seat while I went to buy a book. When I came back my dear laptop with my ten years work has vanished. Needless to say that the price of the glass window was another story.
But, guess what!! I had a external USB drive, where my weekly backups were religiously kept. One will tell then "At least you have your data, you can replace the hardware". This is dam true, if the USB drive was not in the same bag with my laptop!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes gentlemen, I lost my laptop, I lost my window, and I lost 10 years of hard work.
How did I have that genius idea to keep my backup disk with my laptop? Smart huh???
Conlusion: It is not enough to have a backup, it is also important to know where to keep your backup. And the bonus idea is that you better test from time to time whether your backup is useable when needed or not. How? By doing regular restore test.
That's all folks.
